John and Jean Harvey were both Longstanding members of Barry Camera Club. They were both avid photographers and produced some excellent works. Both, John and Jean served on the club committee over the years and contributed to the running and organisation of the club.

John was especially known for his creative photography as well as other photographic genres. As such an annual competition has been created in their name – The John and Jean Harvey challenge for Best Creative Monochrome Image for which a plaque, donated by their son and daughter, is awarded.
